The Stronghold: Silencing Half the Church
For generations, many women have been told — directly or indirectly — that their role in the Church is limited to silence, support, and service “from the background.” The result?
A stronghold that has:
1. Silenced gifted voices
2. Withheld revelation from the Body
3. Created a culture of suppression rather than empowerment
This mindset doesn’t reflect the Kingdom of God. It reflects religious tradition, human fear, and patriarchal control.
What Scripture Actually Shows
The Bible — when read fully and contextually — celebrates women in leadership, prophecy, teaching, and ministry. Here are just a few examples:
- Deborah (Judges 4–5): A prophetess, judge, and military leader of Israel — chosen by God.
- Huldah (2 Kings 22:14): A prophetess consulted by priests and kings.
- Phoebe (Romans 16:1): Called a diakonos (same word used for male deacons), and a trusted leader.
- Priscilla (Acts 18:26): Taught Apollos — a male preacher — alongside her husband.
- Mary Magdalene (John 20:17): The first witness of the resurrection and was commissioned by Jesus to go and tell the apostles.
And let’s not forget that it was daughters, not just sons, who were prophesied to speak by the power of the Spirit.
What This Stronghold Does
This stronghold doesn’t just hurt women — it harms the whole Church.
- It withholds the full image of God, which includes both male and female.
- It creates environments where women must fight to be heard, rather than be released to lead.
- It fosters toxic theology that reduces identity to gender, not calling.
- It contradicts the Gospel, which is always about inclusion, transformation, and Spirit-led function.
God Is Raising Women — Now
We are living in a time where God is restoring what religion tried to bury.
Across the nations, women are rising as:
- Pastors
- Evangelists
- Apostolic pioneers
- Worship leaders
- Deliverance ministers
- Prophets
And their fruit speaks for itself.
If Jesus trusted a woman to be the first to preach the resurrection (Mary Magdalene), who are we to say she can’t preach today?
Call to Action
Rethink your theology — is it truly based on Scripture or cultural tradition?
Listen to the voices of Spirit-filled women God is using today.
Speak up when others are silenced because of gender.
Pray that the Church would release the Full Body — male and female — to operate in their gifts.
The Body of Christ needs every voice, every gift, and every vessel.
